Miners Alley Playhouse
The Memory of Water
by Shelagh Stevenson
Directed by John Arp

Teresa, Mary and Catherine come together before their mother's funeral. The three each have different memories of the same events which inevitably causes them to bicker about whose memories are true. The sisters' memories - recalled as they are in all their inaccuracies, almost interact with each other, and show that despite synchronicities of time and place the people involved in the incidents of the past cannot agree on the facts of a unified experience.

Miners Alley Playhouse presents "The Memory of Water" April 19 through May 26. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. (2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26). Tickets are $19.00 to $29.50 with senior, student and group rates available by calling 303-935-3044 or online at minersalley.com.

Opening night, April 19, features a hors d’ oeuvres gala reception after the show; the audience is invited to join the festivities and mingle with the cast at no extra charge. On Saturday April 27 Miners Alley holds its "Second Saturday Members Appreciation Night" and conversation with the director, cast and crew after the performance.

The Globe and Mail describes The Memory of Water as "both gloriously funny and deeply felt…Indeed, The Memory of Water is so funny that it appears at first to be pure black comedy, with the newly bereaved sisters indulging wildly in witty bickering and dope-induced dress-ups…Their quarrels over the funeral arrangements, their well-worn family roles, their unsatisfactory men and their mixed memories of a highly feminine working-class mother are hilarious…In The Memory of Water, [Shelagh Stephenson] skillfully charts the joyous and painful territory of family relationships with insight and compassion."

"The Memory of Water" won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

The stellar cast includes Paige Larson as Mary, Deborah Curtis as Vi, Lisa DeCaro as Teresa with Emily Paton Davies as Catherine, Kurt Brighton as Mike and Matthew Blood-Smyth as Frank.
