"That's what I've been telling you about!" was the final line, the lights of heaven went dark, and The Space Theatre was suddenly filled with the applause of a long, loud, enthusiastic standing ovation last night that brought big smiles, thank yous, and then the cast in return giving their applause for the enthusiastic audience.
Wow. Don't miss seeing this wonderful prouction of FENCES. (For details see my previous post below.)
The Broadway production in 1983 starred James Earl Jones as Troy (the part played a couple of years ago in the Broadway revival by Denzel Washington.)
It's hard to imagine any production more powerful than the one we saw here in Denver last night. The entire cast seemed perfect for each role (with the one exception of Raynell who seemed a few years too old, but still gave an outstanding performance) and each and every actor played their part to perfection.
This is the story of the American dream that too often becomes a nightmare, the story that so often is shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations.
FENCES is the first of that story in a 10-play cycle, all written by renounded playwrite August Wilson. In 2009, 4 years after his death, we saw his 10th and final play here in Denver, Radio Golf (click here for more), this is a great opportunity to see the headwaters, this powerful play that is the kick off of the 10 plays that each, and all, are one of the greatest of all American stories.
Tickets are still available, but don't expect them to last long. Get yours using the links in my previous post here.
